Guaranteed Travel Assurance Plan – Frequently Asked Questions
1.What does Travel Plan cost?
A: $485 (plus GST). That’s a one-time only cost, and the Travel plan policy is good for a lifetime.
2. What exactly does this insurance policy pay for?
A: Travel Plan pays for the bodily remains of your loved one to be returned from where the death takes place to your point of origin. The policy includes the cost of embalming, a casket and shipping. Or if you want your loved one to be cremated where he/she dies, Travel Plan pays for cremation and the return of the ashes to your point of origin.
3. Do I have to pay the costs related to transportation up front and then get reimbursed?
A: If a death occurs, you call a toll free number and the insurance company takes it from there. You don’t pay for a thing; there are no out-of-pocket expenses, and you don’t have to organize anything. The insurance company gets the remains back to your selected funeral home. There are no age limits or health qualifications that you have to consider for this purchase.
4. What happens if the death happens outside of Canada?
A: The insurance is valid for shipping bodily remains from any country, as long as the death occurs more than 100 km from the point of origin.
5. How is this different from travel insurance I get from other places, like the bank?
A: The main difference between Travel Plan and other products is that it is a one-time purchase. This is not health insurance and not life insurance, so there are no health questions. The enrolment form is just one page. Other plans have numerous terms and conditions including pre-existing condition clauses, and they are all reimbursement based, where you have to pay the upfront costs following the death.
6. What if I buy this product and then change my mind?
A: you will get a full refund if you cancel within 30 days and a refund less $50 if you cancel within 60 days. There’s no refund after 60 days.
